Castleberry ISD Welcomes Steven Moss Director of Fine Arts

Castleberry ISD is excited to announce Steven Moss as the district’s new Director of Fine Arts. Steven Moss comes to Castleberry ISD from Duncanville ISD where he served as the Director of Fine Arts. He began his career in education in Rivercrest ISD where he was the Director of Bands.

Originally from Langley, Virginia, Steven’s father flew for the Special Activities Division in the US Air Force. Moss earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Henderson State University and his Master’s degree in Music Education from Southern Methodist University. He is currently completing his Doctorate degree at Texas Wesleyan University where his dissertation topic is the first study on the role of the Public School Fine Arts Administrator.

During his undergraduate studies, Steven earned the outstanding music major award and was inducted into the Alpha Chi National Honor Society while at SMU. His bands have consistently earned the UIL Sweepstakes Award. Additionally, ensembles under his direction have earned the rare distinction of being named the TMEA State Honor Band. His bands have earned the bronze and silver medals at the UIL State Marching Competition and have won the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series State Competition and have been named National Winners in the coveted Mark of Excellence Competition three years in a row and had the highest number of UIL State Solo and Ensemble participants in their class. Moss has served in various leadership positions including region, area, and state levels for both TMEA and ATSSB. His professional affiliations include TMEA, ATSSB, TMAA, and Phi Beta Mu International Honorary Band Fraternity.

Moss is the youngest of four brothers and is the proud uncle of 11 nieces and nephews. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, hiking, reading, and sharing his passion for student leadership through his summer workshops.

His philosophy involves creating genuine, meaningful connections with students while helping to shepherd them through this very important time in their lives. Moss would like to thank the Board of Education for this tremendous opportunity to partner with all stakeholders and continue the work of Ms. Abigail Crawford, the district’s previous Director of Fine Arts. He is truly honored to be trusted with this important role of enriching the lives of students through meaningful fine arts experiences.
