Jeannette Bray, a first grade bilingual teacher at A.V. Cato Elementary, has been named Castleberry ISD's Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2023. With her extensive educational background and passion for teaching, she has made a lasting impact on her students, colleagues, and community. Her commitment to creating a safe and engaging learning environment, advocating for her students' needs, and fostering strong relationships sets her apart as an exemplary educator. As Castleberry ISD’s Elementary Teacher of the Year, Bray will advance to the regional level where one elementary teacher in Region XI will be named Region XI Teacher of the Year.

Everett White Named Secondary Teacher of the Year for Castleberry ISD
Everett White, a sixth through eighth grade physical education and athletics teacher who also serves as the Boys' Athletic Coordinator at Irma Marsh Middle School, has been named Castleberry ISD’s Secondary Teacher of the Year for 2023. With over 30 years of experience in education, White has made a significant impact on the lives of countless students. As Castleberry ISD’s Secondary Teacher of the Year, White will advance to the regional level where one secondary teacher in Region XI will be named Region XI Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Castleberry ISD is honored to introduce Rubén Molinar as the newly appointed principal of Castleberry High School. Molinar joins Castleberry ISD from Mansfield ISD, where he served at Summit and Timberview High School as an Assistant Principal and Academic Associate for the past three years. He embarked on his career in education 25 years ago as a bilingual teacher, instructing first and second grade students in Dallas ISD.

Castleberry ISD Receives National Recognition for Music Education Excellence
Castleberry ISD has received the "Best Communities for Music Education" designation for its commitment to music education. This is the first time the district has received the award, which is given to schools that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing music access and education to all students. Castleberry ISD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs to qualify for the award.

Pre-K and Kinder Registration for the 2023-2024 School Year Begins Saturday, April 1
Castleberry ISD will continue to offer free, full-day pre-Kindergarten (pre-K) and Kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year. Registration for the district’s pre-K and Kindergarten programs opens online Saturday, April 1. Parents of a pre-K or Kindergarten student who prefer to register their child in person are invited to attend a Registration Event on Monday, April 3 from 5:30 - 7:00 PM at one of the elementary schools.

Castleberry ISD is proud to be among the third group of educational institutions recognized by the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) with the prestigious Award of Excellence in Financial Management. Established in 2020, the award is given to Texas school districts, open-enrollment charter schools, and education services centers that demonstrate professional standards, best practices, and innovations in the area of financial management and reporting. Is Math Acceleration Right for Your Child?
Castleberry ISD provides students in kindergarten through fifth grades who are currently enrolled in the district and meet specific eligibility criteria, opportunities to advance in math beyond their enrolled grade level through the Acceleration in Math (AIM) program. The acceleration process involves skipping classroom instruction for a grade level. Students must demonstrate mastery of the math standards above their current grade level and for which s/he has not received any formal classroom instruction.

CISD STEM Academy @ River District is currently accepting applications from fifth grade students. Any student currently enrolled in fifth grade at Castleberry ISD or an out of district student who plans to apply for an out of district transfer to Castleberry ISD for the 2023-2024 school year is eligible to apply to the admissions-based CISD STEM Academy @ River District. All applications are due Monday, April 3 at 11:59 PM. Applications will be screened with the STEM Academy rubric, and 25 students will be notified of their acceptance in May.

As a result of the winter storm that moved through the DFW Metroplex this week, changes have been made to the athletic schedule. All district games previously scheduled for Friday, February 3 have been moved to the BYE week and are now scheduled for Tuesday, February 21.

Congratulations to the Castleberry High School Mariachi Los Leones for earning straight first division ratings at the UIL Region 5 Mariachi Competition! A first division rating is the highest rating an ensemble can earn at UIL Music Competitions. Earning straight first division ratings from all three of the UIL judges qualified Mariachi Los Leones for a chance to compete at the coveted UIL State Mariachi Competition for the first time in the program's history. The State UIL Mariachi Competition will be held on Saturday, February 25 at Seguin High School in Seguin ISD.

Castleberry ISD Applies for Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers Federal Grant
Castleberry ISD submitted an application for the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant. The federal Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC program supports the creation and expansion of community learning centers that provide academic and enrichment opportunities during afterschool and summer programming. If awarded the federal grant, Castleberry ISD plans to utilize the funds to provide students additional opportunities to develop academic, leadership, and character skills after school and in the summer months until 6:00 PM through a newly developed partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County. Currently, there is not an active Boys & Girls Club within the boundaries of Castleberry ISD. The Tarrant County Club serves mostly Fort Worth ISD students; however, if awarded this grant opportunity, the district has planned a way to develop a partnership which would allow the organization to expand their services to serve residents residing within the boundaries of Castleberry ISD.

Castleberry ISD and NPower Texas Expand Free Tech Fundamentals Program to Recent Graduates
Castleberry ISD is looking for recent graduates and community members between the ages of 18 and 26 who are looking to start a career in tech. The district is partnering with NPower to offer a tuition-free Tech Fundamentals program that will provide participants the skills needed to fast-track their tech career and be job ready in six months. Those interested do not need to have prior technology skills or training. NPower and Castleberry ISD will ensure all students have the resources needed to successfully participate in the program – including a computer.

As Students Start the Second Semester, District Launches STOPit Anonymous Reporting App
The district remains committed to keeping students and employees safe, healthy, and engaged in a positive learning experience. With the start of the new year, Castleberry ISD is pleased to announce the district is launching STOPit, an online, anonymous reporting tool designed to deter and mitigate bullying, cyber abuse, and other inappropriate behaviors. STOPit consists of an app and a back-end incident management system for school administrators to easily identify, intervene, and provide assistance to at-risk individuals while building a prevention-driven culture.

The Castleberry ISD Innovation Leaders are gearing up for the district’s second annual Family Code Night on Tuesday, November 15 at Castleberry Elementary from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM. This FREE, family oriented come and go event invites everyone to experiment with code, compete in challenges, and create online applications. Students need to bring their school issued device to be able to participate in all of the activities. Families will move through three different types of coding activities: robotics, “unplugged” challenges, and code creation stations.

On Tuesday, November 15, Castleberry ISD will host a parent information night for families interested in learning more about the district’s Gifted and Talented Assessment and Identification process. The meeting will be held in conjunction with Family Code Night at Castleberry Elementary, 1100 Roberts Cut-Off Road, Fort Worth, TX 76114, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. There will be two information sessions for parents/guardians in the school library. The first will be at 5:45 PM and the second will start at 6:30 PM.

Churchill Road, from Deering Drive to Blackstone Drive, is currently closed because of a water main break. The city of Fort Worth has not provided an estimate on how long the roads will be closed. Please review the detour maps, and read the suggested alternate routes for accessing Irma Marsh Middle School and Castleberry High School.

River District to Host Fall Festival and 6th Annual Barktober Fest
The River District is set to host the Fall Festival and 6th Annual Barktober Fest on Friday, October 28 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The event will take place in the parking lot of the Paw Pad and the Living Water Church field, located at 5201 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, TX 76114. The Fall Festival will include lots of family fun and dog-friendly activities, such as trunk or treat, bounce houses, a pumpkin patch/painting station, and photo booth. Be sure to dress the entire family and Fido in costume for a chance to win either the pet costume contest or best family/group costume.

Congratulations to Jazmin Gonzales, a first year art teacher at Castleberry High School. Gonzalez applied for and received a First Year Teacher Grant from the Texas Cultural Trust. According to the TX Cultural Trust website, "The Texas Cultural Trust recognizes the critical importance of providing quality arts education to every child. The First Year Teacher Grant is designed to support highly qualified arts teachers in providing quality arts education access to Title 1, rural, low arts access communities."

On September 20, 2022, Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day with a massive cross-country effort to register voters ahead of the hotly contested midterm elections. Every eligible American voter should have the option to exercise their right to be heard at the ballot box, and National Voter Registration Day is the right day to start by getting registered. Communities across the country, in all 50 states and D.C., are planning to use National Voter Registration Day to get registered and get #VoteReady.

Castleberry ISD is excited to announce Anita Sims as a new member of the district’s Police Department who will serve at Castleberry Elementary. Prior to joining the Castleberry ISD Police Department, Officer Sims served in the capacities of Patrol Officer, Public Information Officer, Crimes Victim Liaison and Detective for the Sansom Park, Everman, and Pelican Bay Police Departments.

Congratulations to Castleberry High School art students, Victoria D., Celeste R., and Gabriela S., for being selected to have their artwork displayed at the annual Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) and Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Convention Art Exhibit. The TASA/TASB Art Exhibit was held in the exhibit hall of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, TX during the September conference. These talented students’ artwork will proudly represent Castleberry ISD and will be among several award-winning pieces of art throughout the state.

Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker Discusses Planning for Postsecondary Success with CHS Students
Castleberry High School students met Mattie Parker, Mayor of Fort Worth, on Tuesday. Inside the school’s auditorium full of juniors and seniors, she spoke little of politics. Instead, she focused most of the conversation around planning for postsecondary success. Upon arrival, Parker was greeted and escorted backstage by members of the campus SkillsUSA organization. The campus chapter is facilitated by Jackie Auger, CTE teacher, and aims to ensure America has a skilled workforce.

Castleberry ISD is excited to announce Noe Padilla as a new member of the district’s police force who will serve at Joy James Academy of Leadership. Prior to joining the Castleberry ISD Police Department, Padilla served as a Police Sergeant for eight years at Texas Health Resource Police Department. A Dallas native, Padilla has an associate’s degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering. Noe has 14 years of law enforcement with a Intermediate Peace Officer Certificate.

Castleberry ISD is excited to announce Edgar Pina as a new member of the district’s police force who will serve at A.V. Cato Elementary. Prior to joining the Castleberry ISD Police Department, Pina was a member of the Richland Hills Police Department where he served the past 12+ years as a police officer and school resource officer at Richland Middle School. He began his career in Law Enforcement in the United States Marine Corps where he served as Military Police and Physical Security Specialist for over 12 years.

Castleberry ISD Improves Student Academic Growth and District Accountability Rating During 2021-2022 Year
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released the academic performance ratings for school districts throughout the state. Castleberry ISD students, teachers, and schools continue to make significant progress as seen in the 2022 state accountability ratings. In fact, Fort Worth’s Morris Foundation recently recognized Castleberry ISD as the second highest improved district in Tarrant county — improving student success by 19% – compared to the state average of 12%.

Castleberry ISD welcomes all students back for the 2022-2023 school year on Wednesday, August 10! In preparation for the first day, parents are encouraged to be aware of the traffic flow for the area surrounding each campus. During this time, please be extra cautious in traffic. Be aware that school traffic zones will be in effect during morning drop off and afternoon dismissal. Students will be walking to and from school, so be cautious while driving and be aware of pedestrians. Castleberry ISD school buses will be back on the road, and may impact your daily travel. When approaching a school zone or school bus on the road, be prepared to stop for bus and pedestrian traffic.

Castleberry ISD is encouraging parents to take care of their child's health before school starts on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 since students are required to show acceptable evidence of vaccinations prior to entry, attendance, or transfer to a public elementary or secondary school in Texas. The DFW area JPS Community Health Clinics are offering free COVID-19 vaccines for children ages 4 and older and back to school immunizations, while supplies last. Insurance is accepted. For self-pay, please call for rates.

Castleberry ISD is excited to announce Deborah Aspegren as the district’s new Assistant Principal at Castleberry High School. Deborah Aspegren comes to Castleberry ISD from Fort Worth ISD where she served as an Assistant Principal for the past eight years. She began her career in education in White Settlement where she was a 7th grade math teacher and department leader for two years.

Castleberry ISD is excited to announce the promotion of Michael Garcia as the district’s new Assistant Principal at Irma Marsh Middle School. Garcia has previously served Irma Marsh Middle School as a teacher and a coach for the past two years. He began his career in education in Dexter Consolidated Schools as a classroom teacher and a coach.

Castleberry ISD is excited to announce Dr. Jennifer Turner as the district’s new Assistant Principal at A.V. Cato Elementary. Jennifer Turner was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas at Carswell Airforce base. Dr. Turner began her career in education for the Department of Defense Schools in Aviano, Italy, where she served as a special education/inclusion teacher. Turner returns to Castleberry ISD from Mansfield ISD where she served as the high school Behavior Specialist for the past year. In addition to her service, she was nominated as teacher of the year three years in a row and implemented the district’s Special Olympics.

Jennifer comes to Castleberry ISD from Innovations by Mesa Springs Partial Hospitalization Program, where she served as a Clinical Program Manager and therapist. A California native, Monjack moved to Texas just over three years ago. She currently resides in rural Johnson County and is proud to call Texas her new home.

Castleberry ISD is excited to announce Steven Moss as the district’s new Director of Fine Arts. Steven Moss comes to Castleberry ISD from Duncanville ISD where he served as the Director of Fine Arts. He began his career in education in Rivercrest ISD where he was the Director of Bands.

Castleberry ISD Board of Education Approves 2022-2023 Employee Compensation Plan
The Castleberry ISD Board of Education unanimously approved the 2022-2023 Employee Compensation plan at the May board meeting. The approved compensation plan includes salary increases for all employees in the district. Teachers, librarians, and nurses (RN) who are paid on the teacher salary scale will receive a 4.8% average general pay increase for the 2022-23 school year. This results in all teachers, librarians, and nurses receiving a minimum increase of $1,900 from last year’s salary.

The Texas Education Agency has released the 2022 STAAR Test Scores. Parents and students can access the results by logging into Castleberry ISD’s Skyward Family Access beginning Friday, June 24, 2022. Castleberry ISD administrators encourage parents to log in and learn more about their child’s progress beginning Friday.

Charles Gideon Named Principal of Castleberry Elementary
Castleberry ISD is pleased to announce the promotion of Charles Gideon as Principal of Castleberry Elementary, effective immediately. Gideon has been with Castleberry ISD since October 2019 serving as Assistant Principal of A.V. Cato Elementary. He began his career in education in Fort Worth ISD where he was a middle school math and science teacher. He served as department head, technology liaison, and an assistant principal intern.

Castleberry ISD is pleased to announce the promotion of Kerissa Bearce as Principal of Irma Marsh Middle School, effective immediately. Bearce has been with Castleberry ISD since July 2019 serving as Assistant Principal and was named Interim Principal of Irma Marsh Middle School in May. Ms. Bearce is a proud graduate of Castleberry High School and River Oaks community member. 
FW Vaqueros Tickets
District Employees and Students Receive Free Admission to FW Vaqueros Home Games
Summer is here, and the Fort Worth Vaqueros Futbol Club has declared Castleberry ISD’s W.O. Barnes Stadium the team’s home turf for the 2022 season. As part of the partnership, the Fort Worth Vaqueros will allow all Castleberry ISD students and employees to attend home games for free with a valid school ID.

Castleberry ISD is excited to announce Kathryn Walker as the district’s new Gifted and Talented (GT) Instructional Coach. Walker comes to Castleberry ISD from Mansfield ISD where she served as a teacher for the past 12 years while concurrently serving as a campus GT Specialist for the past seven years. She began her career in education in Mansfield ISD where she was first a para-educator and later an early childhood teacher.

Shannon comes to Castleberry ISD from ILTexas Charter School where she served as a(n) Dean of Instruction and Curriculum and Tarrant County Area Reading Language Arts Instructional Coach for the past five years. She began her career in education in 2007 in Castleberry ISD where she was a fifth grade math and science teacher at A.V. Cato.

Cogar comes to Castleberry ISD from Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD where she served as a science teacher, department chair, and district instructional leader for the past nine years. She began her career in education in the private sector in New York where she was a science teacher.
