Dr. Teresa Phelps Named Principal of Joy James Academy of Leadership
Castleberry ISD is pleased to announce Dr. Teresa Phelps as the next principal of Joy James Academy of Leadership. Dr. Phelps has served Castleberry ISD for the past three years as an early literacy coach and assistant principal. Dr. Phelps began her career in education as a classroom teacher in Fort Worth ISD, where she taught grades three and five. After ten years in the classroom, she transitioned to the role of instructional coach within the same district. Later, she joined Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, where she served as an intervention specialist for five years.
With 20 years in education, Dr. Phelps has celebrated many successes with students and educators. She has supported numerous teachers in improving their craft through instructional coaching, developed early literacy curriculum, and provided professional development opportunities for educators throughout the region. Additionally, Dr. Phelps has taught both undergraduate and Master’s students at Texas Wesleyan University, further contributing to the field of education.
Phelps began her academic journey at Texas State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree. She then advanced her education at Texas Wesleyan University, where she obtained both a Master’s degree and a Doctorate in Education.
Outside of work, Dr. Phelps loves to spend time with family. She and her significant other, Jeremy Smith, have two boys, Phelps (5) and Benjamin (4).
Dr. Phelps is honored to continue serving the Joy James Academy of Leadership community as principal. She is dedicated to empowering students to become leaders and find their voices, enabling them to make a meaningful impact in the world.
