2nd Annual Castleberry ISD Family Code Night Event Tuesday, November 15

The Castleberry ISD Innovation Leaders are gearing up for the district’s second annual Family Code Night on Tuesday, November 15 at Castleberry Elementary from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM. This FREE, family oriented come and go event invites everyone to experiment with code, compete in challenges, and create online applications. Students need to bring their school issued device to be able to participate in all of the activities. Families will move through three different types of coding activities: robotics, “unplugged” challenges, and code creation stations. As students complete each activity, they will receive a sticker to add to their Family Code Night Challenge Card.

There are several Challenge Card achievements that students can earn. First, if students complete at least one activity out of each of the three categories (Robotics, “Unplugged”, Creative), their challenge card will be entered into a drawing for fabulous door prizes such as LEGO kits and littleBits Music Inventor Kits. Additionally, certificates will be awarded to students who complete 4 robotics or 4 “unplugged” activities earning them the title of “Robotics Wizard” or “Unplugged Master” respectively. Ambitious students could even collect both!

Finally, in the Creation category, students who work through at least five steps to create an Hour-of-Code application will receive a sticker in recognition of their efforts. However, if students complete all required steps and acquire a QR code of their final project, they will be awarded a Creative Genius certificate and earn a Drone Flight Pass.

This year's event includes several event partners, including Sphero, L3Harris, and inventXYZ! InventXYZ, an organization dedicated to preparing high school students for the future with cutting-edge hands-on skills, will have hands-on stations for participants to learn. In 2020 inventXYZ was awarded the Penn President's Innovation Prize. To learn more about inventXYZ's current projects, click here. Representatives from Sphero will facilitate a Sphero maker space playground station. The company also donated several prize items. L3Harris will facilitate a station at this year's event.

Attendees are invited to watch the CISD STEM Academy students record another episode of the Lion's Tech Tips podcast. You might even be someone they ask to interview during the event!

Parent Information tables will be setup for parents to ask questions regarding the Skyward mobile app, learn how to subscribe to your child's campus calendar on your phone, learn more about pre-kindergarten enrollment and programs, and much more!

Attendees will have access to the district’s very own fleet of drones to pilot at this event! A Drone Flight Pass will guarantee each child the opportunity to pilot a drone through an aerial obstacle course.

All attendees will be provided with complimentary snacks including hot dogs, nachos, cookies, and lemonade to replenish brain power as your family codes the night away!

Gifted and Talented Parent Session

During Family Code Night, the district will host two parent information sessions for parents/guardians interested in learning more about Castleberry ISD’s Gifted and Talented Assessment and Identification process. These sessions will be at 5:45 PM and 6:30 PM in the Castleberry Elementary Library, located on the second floor.
