STEM Academy @ River District

  •  Students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives
  • Science impacts the technology of yesterday, today, and the future. Students apply the concepts of physics, chemistry, and nanotechnology to STEM activities and projects.

  • Through hands-on projects, students explore electricity, the behavior and parts of atoms, and sensing devices. They learn knowledge and skills in basic circuitry design, and examine the impact of electricity on the world around them.

  • Physical computing projects will promote student awareness of interactive systems, including Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and broaden their understanding of abstract computer science concepts through meaningful and authentic applications.

  • Accelerated Math and Science courses prepare students for rigorous and advanced level AP coursework for college credit in high school.

"School Within a School:"

The STEM Academy @ River District is designed for students who are interested in the field of Cybersecurity and Computer Programming. The STEM Academy is a “school within a school” meaning that students will take the majority of their classes within the academy setting.  The STEM Academy offers a unique classroom experience by incorporating cross-curricular projects and authentic learning experiences that are not part of a traditional classroom. Rigorous coursework and Problem-Based Learning will allow students to acquire skills that are critical to success in college and in STEM career fields. The academy engineering courses are taught through Project Lead The Way (PLTW), a curriculum designed by engineers for students.
