Texas Girls Coaching Association (Coaching School)

Target Audience: Girls athletic coaches

Date: July 14 - 17, 2025
Location: ESports Stadium, Arlington, Texas

Course Description: The annual Summer Clinic sponsored by the TGCA is well-known throughout the United States and attracts nationally recognized volleyball, basketball, track & field, cheer, tennis, soccer, and softball clinicians. TGCA is certified by the Texas Education Agency to provide professional development lectures.  In conjunction with the annual Summer Clinic, two volleyball, basketball and softball All-Star games are played featuring 152 of the most outstanding incoming senior athletes in Texas. The clinic and All-Star games attract approximately 10,000 coaches, their families, and fans from Texas and surrounding states.

Kimbell Art Museum: Teacher Forum for Modern and Contemporary Art

Target Audience: K-12 visual arts teachers

Course Description:

This immersive program for educators features sessions at The Warehouse, Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas Museum of Art, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and Kimbell Art Museum. Middle and high school teachers are invited to deepen their understanding of contemporary and modern art and architecture; develop strategies for interpreting and teaching about artworks; and connect with collections, resources, and colleagues at each institution. $300 tuition includes all instruction, materials, and lunch each day. CPE credits are available.

Course Description: The Annual Summer Convention by TCDA offers intellectual and professional development activities that embrace varied styles, genres, and aspects of choral music. The mission of TCDA is to promote the art and artistry of choral singing and support the pursuit of excellence within the choral music profession. TCDA is approved by the State Board of Education Certification (SBEC) as a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) provider for band, choir, mariachi, and orchestra directors.

SMU The Art of Teaching Music: A Workshop for Band Directors

Course Description: The Art of Teaching Music is a workshop for band directors produced as a joint project of The Center for Music Education at Sam Houston State University and Young Educator Seminars of Southern Methodist University. This comprehensive event brings together teachers, performers, and students to explore teaching at the highest levels. Instrument pedagogy, ensemble rehearsal, advocacy, and musicianship will all be addressed. Participants may select offerings from all tracks. This is an intense, exciting, practical, and inspiring experience for both new and veteran teachers.

Texas High School Coaches Association (Coaching School)

Course Description: The THSCA Convention & Coaching School is THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE ATHLETICS CONFERENCE in the state of Texas. This three-day annual conference offers a wide range of education sessions on both boys and girls sports, athletic administration, as well as health and safety topics, multiple networking opportunities, rules meetings, an on-site job room, an awards banquet, and an astounding array of exhibits. On average the THSCA Convention draws an attendance of over 13,000 coaches, athletic administrators and exhibitors.

SMU Kodaly Certification Training Program: Level I - III

Target Audience: Elementary music teachers and Choir Directors

Course Description:  Kodály-inspired instruction uses a carefully organized sequence of musical elements and concepts taught through developmentally appropriate song materials and musical activities. Using high-quality traditional folk music as the initial core musical material, Kodály-inspired musician educators engage their students in joyful, sequential, developmentally appropriate, child-centered, and interactive sound-based instruction. Students are guided to discover, articulate, read, write, improvise and create with the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony and form in unison singing, part work, creative activities and instrumental work, while developing skills in movement, listening, memory, inner hearing and conducting.

SMU Orff Schul Certification Training Program: Level I - III

Target Audience: Elementary Music teachers and Choir directors

Course Description: Orff Schulwerk is a philosophy of music education, which is based on the work of German composer and music educator Carl Orff and his colleague, Gunild Keetman. During this course, students will explore music through singing, moving, playing unpitched and pitched percussion instruments and recorder, and improvising. Level I students will be introduced to basic Orff techniques, including a study of pentatonic melodies, drone accompaniment, ostinato and elemental forms. Level II students will be introduced to hexatonic and modal melodies, drone and chord accompaniments, and changing meters. Level III students will begin with a review of the diatonic modes, followed by a study of functional harmony. 100% attendance is expected of students who participate in this certification course.

Sing. Play. Love: Early Childhood Music Education

Course Description: Age-appropriate strategies for nurturing the development of every child. By integrating beloved activities like music, books, and play into daily routines, teachers can infuse joy and purposeful teaching of foundational social-emotional skills into their interactions with children. Participants will receive the "Just Seven Skills" kit, which includes seven picture books, corresponding play and learning activities, and visual supports. This session is aligned with the Instructional Strategies component of the TEA-required self-assessment.
