Celebrate CTE Month with Castleberry ISD: A Focus on Real-World Skills and Career Success
Castleberry ISD invites the community to join in the celebration of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month this February. The month-long celebration will highlight the integral role of CTE in middle and high school education, recognizing the teachers, students, and businesses that contribute to the success of these programs.
Throughout the month, updates and recognitions will be shared on social media and ParentSquare under the hashtags #CastleberryCTE and #CTEMonth.
CTE programs are celebrated for their role in helping students gain real-world skills, explore various careers, and prepare for success in college and beyond. These programs offer students the opportunity to continue their education at technical schools or colleges or to gain an advantage when entering the workforce after graduation.
Students in CTE programs have the chance to participate in internships and practicums, gaining hands-on experience in their chosen pathways. Opportunities range from summer internships at doctor’s offices and state offices to aiding teachers at elementary schools during the school year. Construction students build mini houses with wood and power tools, while health science students learn practical skills like drawing blood and working with patients.
CTE students can also earn industry-based certifications (IBCs), which are recognized by the industries they serve. These certifications can help students secure jobs that would typically require them. Some of the IBCs earned by students include the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) certification, Patient Care Technician (PCT), SafeServ Manager, and Adobe Premiere Pro. This year, Castleberry ISD is introducing additional IBCs, such as Stukent Social Media Marketing and CompTIA A+ certification.
Students are encouraged to join career and technical student organizations (CTSOs), with established chapters of DECA and HOSA available. Participation in these organizations allows students to compete against their peers at local, state, and national competitions, providing invaluable experiences.
