Today, Castleberry High School was honored to welcome back one of our very own alumni, Mr. Devontae Lacasse, Class of 2020, who returned to campus as the admissions officer for Dartmouth University, to speak with seniors about the college admissions process. A proud graduate of Dartmouth College, Class of 2024, Mr. Lacasse shared his experiences, insights, and encouragement with our students as they prepare for their own journeys beyond high school.
Mr. Lacasse spoke passionately about the importance of “knowing your why” when considering colleges, reminding students that finding the right fit is essential to thriving academically and personally. He offered valuable advice on Dartmouth’s holistic admissions review, highlighting the importance of academics, voice and impact, and overall fit. He explained how test scores and personal essays work together to tell a student’s unique story, and how each applicant’s contributions to their community are carefully considered.
Reflecting on his own path, Mr. Lacasse credited community as a key reason for choosing Dartmouth. While at Castleberry, he was a dedicated member of band and Mariachi, experiences that shaped his leadership and passion for learning. During his time at Dartmouth, he continued to expand his horizons—even studying abroad in Paris, France.
As a first-generation college graduate from Castleberry ISD, Mr. Lacasse is a trailblazer who represents the incredible potential of our students. He encouraged seniors to explore schools beyond Texas, reminding them that higher education can open doors across the world.
The impact of his visit was clear. Senior Camilla T. shared, “This is one of the best admissions presentations I’ve ever attended.” Fellow senior Lorenzo A. added, “I will consider Dartmouth as a school on my list.”
Castleberry High School is deeply proud of Mr. Lacasse and grateful for his willingness to give back to his alma mater. His story is a powerful reminder of the opportunities that await our students and the importance of lifting one another up along the way.
As Mr. Lacasse continues to make his mark on the world, we are inspired knowing that he is helping guide the next generation of Lions toward success in college, career, and life.
