Castleberry ISD welcomes Jennifer Garcia as the district’s new content coordinator for secondary English language arts. Garcia, who holds a doctorate in education, joins Castleberry ISD from ESC Region 11, where she served as the secondary Texas Reading Initiative literacy instructional coach for the past three years. She began her career in education 13 years ago as a classroom teacher in Dallas Independent School District.
Garcia holds a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction with a focus on triple literacy from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Doctor of Education in organizational leadership from National University. Her doctoral research explored how professional development and mentorship impact early career teachers’ self-efficacy. She holds multiple K–12 teaching certifications, including reading specialist and master reading teacher certifications, and is currently pursuing her principal certification, which she anticipates completing in summer 2025.
Garcia continued her career in education as a classroom teacher in Arlington ISD, where she taught for three years before serving an additional three years as a curriculum and instruction specialist. In that role, she supported more than 170 secondary English language arts and reading teachers through curriculum development, assessment design, professional development, and PLC facilitation. She then expanded her impact at ESC Region 11, where she provided coaching and professional learning on best practices in literacy instruction to districts across the region. Since 2022, she has partnered with the Texas Education Agency to co-develop and deliver a top-rated summer literacy conference, and she recently presented her work to the U.S. Department of Education. Garcia brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for serving all educational stakeholders. She looks forward to contributing meaningfully to the district and community.
Outside of work, Garcia enjoys reading, hiking and writing. She is the proud mother of two daughters, Maeven and Madeleine, who are both beginning their college journeys this fall.
Garcia believes that educators have both the incredible opportunity and great responsibility to shape the future through their work with students, teachers and the broader community. She is honored to begin this new chapter and is excited to serve Castleberry ISD and its Board of Education.
