Castleberry ISD is proud to announce that Sergio R., a fifth-grade student from Joy James Academy of Leadership, was selected to participate in the prestigious 2025 Youth Art Month (YAM) Exhibition and Awards Celebration. His artwork, titled Our Beautiful Lone Star, was showcased on March 9 at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin, Texas. This distinguished honor recognizes student artists from across the state whose work exemplifies creativity, craftsmanship, and personal expression.
Sergio's piece was chosen by the Youth Art Month Committee as part of the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) Spring Exhibition, an annual event that celebrates student achievement in the visual arts. Representing Castleberry ISD on such a prominent stage is a testament to Sergio’s talent and the dedication of his art teacher, Isabel Rocha.
Held each March, Youth Art Month celebrates the importance of art education in developing students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Texas has long been a leader in YAM initiatives, with events including statewide exhibitions, student artist demonstrations, a flag design contest, and a culminating showcase of over 100 selected artworks at the Bullock Museum.
Castleberry ISD congratulates Sergio and Rocha on this well-earned recognition and for representing the district with pride and excellence
