Castleberry ISD welcomes Robert Cantu Police Officer

Castleberry ISD welcomes Robert Cantu as the new Police Officer at Joy James Academy of Leadership. Officer Cantu brings a wealth of experience from his extensive career in law enforcement, which began in 1986 as a patrol officer with the River Oaks Police Department after graduating from the Texas A&M Police Academy. Over the years, he has served with the Lakeside, River Oaks, Azle, and Westworth Village Police Departments, and most recently, returned to River Oaks where he has continued to serve with distinction.

Officer Cantu has worked in various capacities, including Patrol, Warrants, Field Training Officer, Mental Health Liaison, and Municipal Court Bailiff. He has completed specialized training in Arrest, Search & Seizure, DWI Enforcement, Crime Scene Investigation, Defensive Tactics, Emergency Medical Aid, Active Shooter Training, and Mental Health Crisis Management. His ability to calmly and authoritatively manage crises, while offering a compassionate and personable approach, has earned him commendations throughout his career. He has also been a familiar presence at community events, schools, and daycares, fostering a positive view of law enforcement through outreach and education.

Outside of his professional duties, Officer Cantu is happily married to his wife of 16 years. Together, they have a blended family of five children and ten grandchildren, as well as a dog and a couple of cats. They enjoy traveling, exploring new places, attending baseball and soccer games, and engaging in outdoor activities such as motocross and ATV riding.

Officer Cantu is committed to creating a safe, positive, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and families at Joy James Academy of Leadership.
