Castleberry ISD District Spelling Bee En Espanol

Students enrolled in Castleberry ISD’s fourth or fifth grade bilingual program participate annually in a Spanish Spelling Bee competition. Each campus holds a preliminary competition to determine the three students from each grade level who will represent the campus at the district event.

A total of 18 students from Castleberry ISD's three elementary schools qualified for Tuesday's District Spanish Spelling Bee held at the Gary S. Jones Administration building. The events were live streamed to the Castleberry ISD’s YouTube channel and Facebook page for family and friends to watch.

The top speller from each grade level of the district competition is advancing to the regional spelling bee hosted by the Region XI service center on Friday, March 24, 2023.

Daleyza L., A.V. Cato Elementary, was crowned the fourth grade champion after correctly spelling “seleccionados.” Ironically, as a contestant in last year’s third grade competition, Daleyza was defeated by this same word, and secured the runner up spot as a result. Now, another year older, and presumably with more spelling practice under her belt, Daleyza stepped up to the mic and said, “ese – e – ele – e – ce – ce – i – o – ene – a – de – o – ese” like the champion she was crowned to be.

Fifth graders Jeremy C., Joy James Academy of Leadership, and Stephanie M., A.V. Cato Elementary, were the final two contestants competing to be crowned the fifth grade contest winner. Although the two went head-to-head for six rounds, ultimately, Jeremy was disqualified for misspelling the word “hipérbole.” Stephanie was crowned the fifth grade winner after she successfully spelled “enjaretar.”

Rafael N., a fourth grader at Joy James Academy of Leadership, who placed first in last year’s third grade district competition, is this year’s overall runner up for the district. The student spelled 12 words correctly on Tuesday, and will serve as the district’s alternate for the regional competition if one of the other two students is unable to participate.

Congratulations to each of the campus Spanish Spelling Bee Winners who competed in the District competition this year.
