Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP)

The Duke Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) is a non-profit organization that supports academically talented students in grades four through twelve. Duke TIP offers above level-testing, enrichment resources, year-round learning opportunities, residential summer programs, online courses, and need-based financial aid.  Additionally, Duke TIP engages in original research focusing on the needs of gifted students.  The Duke TIP programs exist to serve, challenge, and inspire gifted students while nurturing the social-emotional development of gifted students.

Benefits of Duke TIP, Grade 7

  • Opportunity to take the same ACT or SAT that college-bound high schoolers take, with the cost of one test registration included in the enrollment fee
  • Score report summary from testing with suggestions for how to use that knowledge to create an educational plan
  • Opportunity to qualify for TIP's recognition ceremonies and for some educational programs, including the Summer Studies Program and eStudies
  • Scholar Weekends and Field Studies

 

Eligibility 

The 7th Grade Talent Search is open to current seventh-grade students (or eighth-grade students who skipped the seventh grade) who qualify through one of three methods:

  1. Scoring at or above the 95th national percentile on an accepted grade-level national standardized achievement or abilities test
  2. Scoring at or above the 95th percentile on a state assessment
  3. Scoring 125 or above (full scale or composite) on an accepted IQ test

Please note:

  • Students only need to meet the criteria on one accepted sub-test to be eligible for the program.
  • Students may qualify using scores from any time in the past two years, typically from fifth or sixth grade.
