Curriculum

Castleberry Independent School District began a new focus on curriculum in 2007 with a district decision to implement the CSCOPE Curriculum district wide.

CSCOPE lessons are written based upon the 5E Lesson Planning Model. This model is designed to encourage student directed learning, instead of teacher directed learning. The 5 Es of the lesson model are:

ENGAGE - The teacher engages the student in the new concept by "grabbing" their attention with a question, comic, model or video clip, etc.

EXPLORE - The student explores the new concept by participation in one or more student led activities that usually involves inductive reasoning.

EXPLAIN - The student constructs an understanding of the concept from common experiences provided by the activity.

ELABORATE - The teacher facilitates the student application of this new concept to other similar situations, often by doing another activity.

EVALUATE - The student shows an understanding of the new concept.

The 5E model of lesson is beneficial to out students because the students are actively involved in their education.
