The Arts Advantage

The Arts Advantage: The fine arts (music, art, theatre, dance) are a part of the “Required Curriculum” on elementary, middle school and high school levels. All students in grades K-6 are required to take fine arts. In grades 7 & 8, the students have a choice of which fine art they would like to take and in high school all students are required to complete at least one credit in the fine arts in the “Recommended” and “Distinguished Achievement” high school programs.

The CORE ACADEMIC SUBJECTS are now listed as English, reading or language arts, mathematics, science, foreign languages, civics and government, economics, ARTS, history, and geography.

Each of the Castleberry Schools has a specialist teaching the arts subject. Having a specialist to teach the arts subject is very unusual in most school districts.  The administration feels that the arts are important in the development of the whole child. Almost all of the information we receive in the learning process is acquired kinesthetically, auditorally, and visually. A quality fine arts education program provides students opportunities to acquire basic skills in kinesthetic, musical, spatial, and visual intelligence, applicable to learning in all other subject areas.
