CISD Reading Bee Winners

The annual CISD Second Grade Reading Bee was held on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Castleberry Elementary. Lupita, Aden, Humberto, and Jonah represented A. V. Cato Elementary; Maddison, Kelsey, and Anisa represented Castleberry Elementary; and Elias and Brennen represented Joy James Elementary in the district competition.

Each participant read passages with reading levels varying from fifth-grade to twelfth-grade. The students were judged on their accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. Brennen was the winner of this year’s competition.

He will now represent CISD in the Score-a-Goal in the Classroom’s North Texas Reading Bee to be held at Fort Worth Metro Opportunity School on Saturday, December 9th. In the event, Brennen is unable to compete, Maddison will participate in his place. Dr. June Ritchlin, Dr. Ruth Martin, Shirley Blowers and Anna Wills judged this year’s competition. Michelle Stapp, principal of Castleberry Elementary, provided ice cream for the Reading Bee participants and their family members.
