Career and Technical Education

Section 29.181 of the Texas Education Code requires school districts to provide a curriculum that affords students opportunities "to master the basic skills and knowledge necessary for managing the dual roles of family member and wage earner; and gaining entry-level employment in a high-skill, high-wage job or continuing the student's education at the post-secondary level."

Section 74.3 of the Texas Administrative Code (TAC) requires districts to offer courses in Career and Technical Education (CTE) in at least three of the following eight areas:

- Agricultural Science and Technology Education
- Business Education
- Health Science Technology Education
- Family and Consumer Sciences Education
- Technology Education
- Marketing Education
- Trade and Industrial Education
- Career Orientation

CISD offers Career and Technical Education programs in business education, family and consumer science education, technology/industrial technology education, marketing education and trade and industrial education. Admission to these programs is based on the pathway that students choose on their personal graduation plan.

It is the policy of CISD not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, or handicap in its vocational programs, services or activities as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.

It is the policy of CISD not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, handicap or age in its employment practices as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, as amended; and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.

CISD will take steps to ensure the lack of English language skills will not be a barrier to admission and participation in vocational programs.
