Technology Fair

All Castleberry I.S.D. teachers are encouraged to integrate technology into their curriculum so that their students are eligible to participate in the Technology Fair. Students in these classes can create the assigned project using technology available on the campus to compete against other students. The Technology Fair will be divided into four separate groups for judging: Kinder-1st Class Competition, 2nd-5th Grades, Middle School, and High School.

Teachers of students in grades K-1 may work with their students and submit one entry in the classroom project event.

Individual students in grades 2-8 may create a personal project according to the categories listed below. After grading each project using the rubric listed with each project description, each teacher may submit up to 3 projects with the highest scores.

In grades 9-12, individual students may create a project according to the categories listed below. However, in grades 9-12, students may work in a group of up to four students to compete in the categories for Animation, Desktop Publishing, or Video. After grading each project using the rubric listed with each project description, each teacher may submit up to 3 projects with the highest scores.

All technology fair projects may be on public display so they must not contain offensive material or portrayal of illegal acts. Any project not meeting this criteria will be immediately disqualified.

The winners of each event will receive prizes.

Kindergarten Class Project - (Scoring Rubric) (Sample) Students in the class collaborate to create one class multimedia presentation. Entries to be judged must:

• present a clear goal

• engage the audience

• be free of any grammatical and spelling errors

• include individual student work

• include pictures/graphics, audio/sound, and text

Second Grade Desktop Publishing Project with Original Graphic – (Scoring Rubric) (Sample) Individual students create a picture using Paint, inserting it into a Microsoft Word document. This document will include a typed original story which relates to the picture. Entries to be judged must:

• include an original drawing

• demonstrate knowledge of the software being used

• contain details in the drawing and the story

• be aesthetically pleasing to the eye

• show originality

Third Grade Desktop Publishing Newsletter Project – (Scoring Rubric) (Sample) Individual students create a newsletter using Microsoft Publisher. Entries to be judged must:

• demonstrate knowledge of the software being used

• contain accurate information from research

• contain fully developed pages

• be aesthetically pleasing to the eye

• show originality

Fourth Grade Brochure Project – (Scoring Rubric) (Sample) Individual students create a brochure using Word. Entries to be judged must:

• demonstrate knowledge of the software being used

• contain accurate information from research

• be aesthetically pleasing to the eye

• show originality

• be free of grammatical and spelling errors

Fifth Grade PowerPoint Project – (Scoring Rubric) (Sample) Individual students create an original PowerPoint presentation. Entries to be judged must:

• show the student understands the subject of the presentation

• show apparent research

• exhibit appropriate presentation elements

• demonstrate knowledge of the software being used

• include a video

• include a sound from a file

• be aesthetically pleasing to the eye

• show originality

• be free of grammatical and spelling errors

Fifth Grade Keyboarding – (Scoring Rubric)Students will take a keyboarding test that will test their accuracy, speed, and touch typing skills.

6th – 12th Grade Desktop Publishing Project – (Scoring Rubric) Students create a desktop publishing project using the software of their choice. Entries to be judged must:

• demonstrate knowledge of advanced software features

• contain accurate, researched information or original content

• contain student reaction to/opinion of the subject matter

• contain fully developed, multiple pages

• be aesthetically pleasing to the eye

• show originality

6th – 12th Grade Multimedia Project – (Scoring Rubric) Students create an original multimedia presentation. Entries to be judged must:

• demonstrate knowledge of advanced software features

• show the student understands the subject of the presentation

• show apparent research

• exhibit appropriate presentation elements

• be free of grammatical and spelling errors

6th – 12th Grade Spreadsheet Project– (Scoring Rubric) Students create a spreadsheet using Excel. The product should demonstrate knowledge of the Excel software, data should be clearly represented, formulas used appropriately and the document should be free of grammatical and spelling errors.

6th – 12th Grade Database Project– (Scoring Rubric) Students create a database using Access. The product should demonstrate knowledge of the Access software; data should be clearly represented; database should include useful forms, queries and reports; and the document should be free of grammatical and spelling errors.

6th – 12th Grade Animation Project– (Scoring Rubric) Students create an animation using sound, graphics and pictures. The animation should have appropriate timing, contain content that supports the theme, and contains proper grammar and correct spelling.

6th – 12th Grade Web Mastering Project– (Scoring Rubric) Students create a web page with the software of their choice. The product should contain a background that does not take away from the readability, contain graphics that support the content, contain user friendly navigation, and be free of grammatical and spelling errors.

9th – 12th Grade Video Project – (Scoring Rubric) Students create a video using the software of their choice that contains sharp photos, smooth animation, logical sequence and proper editing that removes unwanted aspects such as strings, wires, etc.

8th and 10th Grade Keyboarding – (8th Scoring Rubric, 10th Scoring Rubric) Students will take a keyboarding test that will test their accuracy, speed, technique and show use of special keys.
